Evening all. Right... first of all, where can I buy a decent little clapper board in the UK? It's proving more difficult than I thought. I'm looking for a plastic one or similar, as opposed to a prop one with Hollywood across the top... Any suggestions?
Secondly I have a DV dilemma. Any body know anything about DV cameras losing pixels??? My XM1 has dropped a single pixel and I'll have to get it fixed. It appears in every frame as a white pixel, very noticable in dark scenes. If you've heard of this problem and can educate me about how to resolve it and the associated costs then please post a reply or get in touch.
Thanks for all those that contacted me about www.fightdirector.com. I'm still looking for suggestions and am happy to have helped a few folk to get in touch with fight directors in their area. It's exactly what I'd hoped for.
If you can help with the above problems, please get in touch.
Cheers
Carter

I got myself a cheap clapperboard in a shop in Cambridge...
It only cost ?9.99, and it sounds just like the thing U are looking for...
I can't remember the name of the shop, but it's on Burleigh STreet, near the Grafton Centre.
You'll know the shop when you see it, as it has a large Humphrey Bogart standing outside.
Anyway, I never actually used my clapperboard when doing my film... (I didn't remeber chalk to write on it with!), so if you want (and depending where you live), you could either borrow mine, or buy it off me for, say, ?5 (plus P+P...).

My old JVC DV camera (got rid of it since then) had a bad pixel in it. It was always white. luckily, i had a warranty so they replaced the camera. i never knew exactly what the problem was. whether it was the CCD chip or something else in the electronics, but i think its a serious problem, so maybe ask a specialist or someone who really knows the workings of your camera.

Regarding your camera, it is indeed a burnt out light sensor on the CCD. This is sometimes due to pointing the lens directly into the sun. Anyone buying a second hand camera should always point the camera in front of a black surface and make sure there is no burn out. The only solution i know is to replace the ccd or easier still is to sell the camera on to some other poor soul that has no knowledge of this either.

I bought a medium size white perspex clapper board from Blanx - VFG, Wembley, London a couple of years ago for ?45.00 + VAT.
Panavision do a nice board with colour bars for about ?75.00.
You use non-permanent marker pens to write on the slate and take numbers. You can get these whiteboard pens from stationers for about ?1.00 each.

Also write your numbers down on camera tape or masking tape, befor ehand and stick them to the back of the clapper then instead of all this chalking or marking stuff jsut simply peel and stick
peel and stick .......
peel and stick ........
